Bodegas Salentein | 1st Argentinian Winery that certifies carbon footprint

24-08-2012

Bodegas Salentein has estimated and certified the Carbon Footprint of its wine Portillo Malbec from primary productiongrape to consumer, resulting in the first Argentinian winery that achieved this certification with business to consumerscope.

Carbon Footprint is an Environmental Management tool that translates the impact and emissions caused by different procedures into amount of CO2 (carbon dioxide). On the one hand, it makes possible to know the contribution of the organisation to the climatic change and, on the other hand, to design an improvement programme based on good environmental practices with the aim of reducing or neutralising the greenhouse gas emissions, calculated as the equivalent amount of CO2.

The survey and assessment were carried out by the company Alex Stewart SA and the certification was issued by Carbon Trust Certification from United Kingdom. The calculation and certification was performed following the regulations PAS 2050:2008 and the international “Code of Good Practice for Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Reduction Claims.”

With this international certification, Bodegas Salentein reaffirms its commitment to the respect for nature, working within the framework of the current legislation, taking care of the environment and boosting the development and work in a team, by means of a transparent communication targeted to consumers, clients as well as internal and external suppliers.
